Breakfast in Bayview: milestone 2!

Okay, so my milestones for reaching a fun, relaxing neighborhood in Bayview are:

1. Get light rail installed and working * Completed, April 2007.

2. Get a breakfast joint I can stroll down to and enjoy -- DING!

I've been watching a place get built up on 3rd street that might fit that bill. Earlier this week I noticed it was open. Today I went down and tried it out. It's not perfect -- only wheat toast, no rye. No fruit sides instead of hash browns. Coffee was only adequate. But the food was excellent for what it was, and the price was right ($7 out the door including tip)

I am totally satisfied.

The next milestone I'll probably see this fall, but the final milestone will be some ways off now...

3. Have a local coffee shop/hangout joint

4. Have a restaurant/coffee shop with tables out on the sidewalk.
(read: that is only possible when people are comfortable sitting there)

Whine, wine, wine...

Yesterday didjiman and karisu_sama rolled up to my house, then we swapped into my minivan and raced up north for the Summer Fest at Eastside Wineries.

Unfortunately, traffic was horrible all the way up there so we didn't arrive until 3:30pm. I'd like to thank Cristopher Creek, Acorn and Mietz Cellars who all let us in after the 4pm cutoff. Yummy good stuff.

Before leaving we ran by Mill Creek to pick up some nice, dry Gewürtzraminers. On the way home we stopped at Lococo's Cucina Rustica, one of the best (and affordable!) italian restaurants in the bay area.

Sweet day.

How to lose friends and influence nobody.

So I've recently had a nasty, rude, abusive experience with someone that I really thought better of. Now he seems confused because I have withdrawn from the conversation. Well, let's make it real clear.

If you
(a) refuse to let someone speak their own mind
(b) tell them that you know what they're going to say
(c) be condenscending to them based on your own assumptions

... yeah, you're off to a bad start.

But if you then allow others to be rude let's pretend someone is playing "telephone." and personally abusive That's a truly pathetic piece of weaseling to that person in comments in your LJ, what really are you trying to accomplish? You are *not* trying to have a reasoned, respectful conversation. You should not be surprised if that person withdraws from the conversation to avoid further abuse.

For my own part, I should never have bothered to follow up after this person originally started pretty much yelling at me (over his own misunderstandings) in person. I should have ignored the LJ post which was clearly trawling for more drama.

And yeah, in case you are wondering: If someone was personally offensive to someone else in a comment-thread I own, I would absolutely delete the offending post and send e-mail to both parties, apologizing to the victim and asking the aggressor to focus on the topic and not attack the person. This is basic politeness. That a fully grown adult can't handle that is shocking.

France is our bitch?

So I found a wine in my rack that was left over from my wine club experience and not one of my local wines. Les Fumáees Rouges is a Syrah Cabernet from Vin Ve Pays D'Oc 1999.

It's rather good, but really what the hell are the French doing naming wines after the grape? I though that was left to us amateurs californians!?!?

Anyway, it's rather good. Yum. No, it's the second bottle. Really. I mean, I can still type, right?
